Freight Forwarding Business Development

We are seeking an experienced Business Development Executive to expand our presence in the LA market. This new position is an excellent opportunity for motivated sales professionals who enjoy and thrive in a flexible, goal-driven environment.

You will be responsible for developing and acquiring a new freight forwarding business (All Modes & Services) in the LA market. You will report to senior management.

Additional responsibilities will include setting appointments, qualifying, warm and cold calls, pricing, proposal preparation, face-to-face client presentations, and providing innovative solutions to secure new business. You will also be expected to maintain client relationships through coordination with our operations team at our local Long Beach, and Rancho Dominguez, CA offices, and with our global partners.

Diligent CargoWise system use (CRM), pipeline reporting, and internal communication on sales cycles are key to success in this position.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record of success in Freight Forwarding Sales
  • College degree (preferred, although a high school diploma and proven sales experience may be substituted for a degree)
  • Knowledge of greater Southern California regional markets
  • Knowledge of Trans-Pacific, European, and Latin America trade lanes
  • Multimodal sales (Air, Ocean, Import, Export, LCL/FCL, Brokerage FTL/LTL)
  • Demonstrated business development and territory management skills
  • Familiarity with computers including programs such as Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and CRM systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • At least 5 years of business development/sales success required

Full Job Description:

The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of all facets of both international ocean and air import, and a solid understanding of domestic transportation. The position will require excellent communication and customer service skills to further develop new and existing customers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Day to day handling of ocean and air import operations
  • Domestic Less-than-truckload (LTL) and Full Truckload Operations
  • Proficiency and understanding of compliance requirements and appropriate regulations
  • Communication with clients, overseas partners, truckers, warehouse, etc.-
  • Create customer rate quotations
  • Door to Door tracking
  • Prepare bills of lading and other documentation as required
  • Addressing issues in a timely and professional manner
  • Attributes/Skills Required
  • BA/BS in a relevant concentration
  • 3 – 5 years experience with the daily maintenance and coordination of international air/sea freight and domestic shipments

Full Job Description:

We’re seeking an outstanding Export Operator for our Rancho Dominguez office. Our growth has led us to upgrade this position. Our ideal candidate will have several years of freight forwarding experience with a focus on Ocean and Air Exports.

The ideal candidate will have the following key skills:

  • Transportation background to include 3-5 years experience with exports including Air Operations, full-container loads (FCL), less-than-container load (LCL), and roll-on/roll-off (RO/RO).
  • Minimum 2 years higher education (AA degree or higher)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including word and excel
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize
  • Independent thinking and creativity
  • Confidence in the ability to make good decisions
  • Ability to stay focused, be quick and efficient
  • Dedicated to excellent customer service
  • Coordination of all aspects of the arrival, including, but not limited to, billing, rate quotation, approval of vendor invoices, etc.
  • Responsible for rating shipments correctly per the SOP.
  • Invoice customers accurately and timely, for services provided.
  • Communicate with and ensure the release of freight from ocean/air carriers.
  • Provided quality customer service functions, direct daily involvement with clients and vendors.
  • Vendor and relationship management to support cost reductions.
  • Work with Sales on account implementation, ensuring a smooth transition from Sales to Operations.
  • Follow standards of TSA and FMC regulations.
  • Maintain standards and goals for operations set by management.
