Operations Manager (Freight Forwarding)

Position Overview:

We’re seeking an outstanding Operations Department Manager for our East Coast Team to help support the growth we are experiencing in this market. This new, hands-on role will be responsible for ensuring the highest levels of customer satisfaction, staff development, and the efficient handling of our customers’ cargo.

Our ideal candidate will have several years of experience in freight forwarding, with a focus on air and ocean imports.

Key Skills and Responsibilities:

  • At least 5 years’ experience with import operations, including air, & FCL & LCL ocean
  • Leading the coordination of all aspects of shipment handling from booking through to delivery (booking, quoting, shipment tracking, cargo breakdown, cargo releases, Customs broker coordination, delivery arrangements, vendor selection & negotiation, billing, vendor payments, etc.).
  • Experience leading a virtual team
  • A history of establishing and maintaining deep customer relationships
  • Experience leading a team to develop, implement, & manage client standard operating procedures
  • Leveraging software and tech solutions to enhance operational productivity
  • Leading extraordinary customer service & problem-solving, including frequent, direct contact with importers to discuss service & resolve challenges
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
  • Strong organizational skills & the ability to prioritize
  • Independent thinking, creativity, & confidence in the ability to make good decisions
  • Ensuring accurate, on-time invoicing of shipments across the operation
  • Maintaining strong vendor relationships to support branch goals
  • Collaborating with an active sales team to close & onboard new business, ensuring a smooth transition into the operation
  •  Ensuring the operation remains compliant with all government agency requirements
  • Meeting and beating metrics for the operation set by management
  • Knowledge of CargoWise systems and Excel is a plus.

Required Experience:

  • Ocean and Air Import/Export: 5 years (Required)
  • CargoWise: at least 1 year (Preferred)
  • Export operations experience is a plus

Language:

  • English (Required)
  • Bilingual a plus

Work Location:

Remote or Hybrid (Long Island or Northeast area preferred)

Hours:

Hours: 7:30 am – 4:30 pm EST

Freight Forwarding Business Development


Position Overview:

Full-time, Commission

We are seeking an experienced Business Development Executive to expand our presence in the LA market. This new position is an excellent opportunity for motivated sales professionals who enjoy and thrive in a flexible, goal-driven environment.

You will report to senior management and be responsible for developing and acquiring a new freight forwarding business (all modes and services) in the LA market.

Additional responsibilities will include setting appointments, qualifying leads, making warm and cold calls, pricing, preparing proposals, giving face-to-face client presentations, and providing innovative solutions to secure new business.

You will also be expected to maintain client relationships through coordination with our operations team at our local Long Beach, Rancho Dominguez, CA offices, as well as with our global partners.

Diligent use of the CargoWise system (CRM), pipeline reporting, and internal communication on sales cycles are crucial to success in this position.

Qualifications:

  • Proven track record of success in freight forwarding sales.
  • College degree (preferred, although a high school diploma and proven sales experience may be substituted for a degree).
  • Knowledge of the greater Southern California regional markets.
  • Knowledge of Trans-Pacific, European, and Latin American trade lanes.
  • Multimodal sales (Air, Ocean, Import, Export, LCL/FCL, Brokerage FTL/LTL)
  • Demonstrated business development and territory management skills.
  • Familiarity with computer programs such as Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and CRM systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • At least five years of business development/sales success are required.
  • Ocean and Air export and Domestic experience is preferred.
